. Research shows that too much screen time for young kids results in lower school readiness and increased weight. A computer is as much a screen as a TV. Also, you want to be able to keep an eye on where young kids are navigating online. For this reason, we suggest keeping computers out of kids’ bedrooms until late middle school. By that time, they should know about Internet safety and smarts. But here are some refresher tips for middle school kids.

. RylandDecember 5, 2011 at 1:54 PM I think that people should have computers or tvs in their room because it can be helpful in many ways. For exampel I might have homework that I need to do on the computer and the only computer that I have is out in the open living room. My brother Sam usually watches a show after school and it tends to distract me while I work, but if I had a computer in my room I wouldn’t be as distracted as I am with people around me making noise. A good reason for a tv in my bedroom is that you can learn from shows like animal planet or Discovery Channel. Edit | Unapprove | Delete

. Reaserch may say that it effects your reading and you can gain weight by just sitting infront of the tv but not evreyone sits their all day. I like to watch tv but my reading is still good and I get good grades in it and I am not fat because you can watch tv and have a work out all in one day. For instance P.E. at school also keeps you fit (even though people should still work out on days without P.E.). Recess also is a time to move like in football and other activities. .
. AliviaDecember 5, 2011 at 2:12 PM I think that kids should have computers and/or tv’s in their bedrooms because,
. 1) if they have homework to do on the computer and their parents are on the computer they can get on theirs to do their work
. 2) if they want to watch tv and, lets say their parents are watching tv, they can go to their room and watch
. 3) if their tvs and/or computers are in their room they don’t have to share
.
. And we all know that if you don’t finish your homework you get to walk.
. JackDecember 5, 2011 at 2:13 PM Kids Shouldn’t have tv’s or computers in your room unless your parents put a security lock on the computers. Kids have lost interest in reading wich means you wont get as smart as a person who does. On the computer alot of kids watch really bad inapropriat vidioes like on You-Tube. Sometimes kids don’t care about school work and get a really bad education and grades and if you grow up and never cared about school ever and is over-obsessed the only thing yopu will know how to do is to use a controler. They say that you can gain weight because of lazeness and you keep eating. There are lots of pop-up add’s and if you click on one your family automaticaly loses money. Kids should not have computers or tv’s inyour own room. Edit | Unapprove | Delete

. KieranDecember 5, 2011 at 7:43 PM What if they have a Wii in their room? They could play physical games like Just Dance. They might also have XBox Connect which is very tiring. It would be hard for kids to get obese. Plus, if a kid gets in trouble, parents can take it away. Chances are, parents aren’t going to pay for all those channels. They’ll probably just pay for the basic channels that have all the educational shows. Parents should say that kids can’t watch tv past a certain time at night. Edit | Unapprove | Delete

. JedDecember 5, 2011 at 9:27 PM Michigan State University’s Linda Jackson, PhD, and colleagues studied 140 children from low-income families who had never had home Internet access.
.
. The kids received home computers and free Internet access for nearly a year and a half. The researchers checked the kids’ grades and test scores before and after the study
. The kids with the greatest home Internet use had higher grade-point averages and reading test scores at six months, one year, and 16 months of home access. The kids used the Internet for an average of 30 minutes daily, mainly surfing the web. Web sites typically have text, letting kids practice reading. Web sites don’t usually involve math, and math scores didn’t change in the study.
.
. After the study, the families kept the computers and received help in finding low-cost Internet access.

. MatthiasDecember 6, 2011 at 6:47 PM I think that it would be easier for a kid to have a computer in their room like if they needed to look something up for homework they could do it. Like lets say say I’m getting bored and there is nothing to do you could have that easily arranged by turning on your computer. If a kid needed to study for a big test or something the teacher could put it online and make it more fun then the kids would want to do the assignment and have fun with it. p.s. almost ever web. I’ve been to only helps the other side. Plus how do you make links? Edit | Unapprove | Delete
.
. ChaseDecember 6, 2011 at 8:08 PM I don’t know what side I’m on so I will give a good sentance or two and a bad sentance or two for each.
.
. A kid shouldn’t have a tv in thier room because if they had a friend spend the night and that friend brought over a movie that was inappropriet, they couldn’t watch it. Also a kid might secretly watch something they were not supposed to.
. On the other hand, maybe a kid wanted to watch a show and their parents were watching a boring sappy romance movie or football.
.
. A child should not have a computer in their room because they might accidentally find some inapropriet video(s) or end up playing games they aren’t supposede to.
. On the oher hand, if the computer was taken and that person had to go and look something up, they could. Or they could plan a secret surprise or play a game. Edit | Unapprove | Delete
.
. DylanDecember 7, 2011 at 12:41 PM Now that I have fanally got to doing this I would like to comment that kids should be able to have a tv and possibly a computer in their bedroom as long as their parnts trust them and they use it for good use. As well it depends on what they use it for, educational and appropiet entertanmit use are fine. Most people say tv rots your brain, but as far as I’m concerened I have learned half the stuff I know from Animal Planet and Bio Channal. So tvs can be educational.
.
.
. Television (TV) has its good side. It can be entertaining and educational, and can open up new worlds for kids, giving them a chance to travel the globe, learn about different cultures, and gain exposure to ideas they may never encounter in their own community. Shows with a prosocial message can have a positive effect on kids’ behavior; programs with positive role models can influence viewers to make positive lifestyle changes.
. Tvs are not bad for peoples minds, I could do a report on a shark or snake right now or tell you about all the famous mobsters in the 1900′s because of the stuuff I have learned from telivision. Edit | Unapprove | Delete

. You don’t gain wieght from watching tv. You gain weight if you watch tv all the time and never go outside and do athletic things. Plus we are talking about bedroom tvs not house tvs, my point about this is that usally you only watch tv in your bedroom at night when your supposed to settle down. Usally if people gain wait it’s from watching the family room tv too much. Edit | Unapprove | Delete

.
. JonahDecember 8, 2011 at 11:40 AM •Children who consistently spend more than 4 hours per day watching TV are more likely to be overweight.
. •Kids who view violent acts are more likely to show aggressive behavior but also fear that the world is scary and that something bad will happen to them.
. •TV characters often depict risky behaviors, such as smoking and drinking, and also reinforce .
. AlexDecember 8, 2011 at 11:43 AM Kids should not have tvs in their room because kids will get addicted to watching tv in there room and will want to stay in their rooms watching tv. TV consumes more of a child’s waking hours than any other activity. Do you realize that children spend about 15,000 to 30,000 hours in front of the TV by the time they are 16 years old. Compare this with about 11,000 hours of classroom instruction. http://voices.yahoo.com/how-does-television-affect-kids-12134.htmlEdit | Unapprove | Delete

Andrew,
- . I think that kids should have computers and/or tv’s in their bedrooms because,
- . 1) if they have homework to do on the computer and their parents are on the computer they can get on theirs to do their work
- . 2) if they want to watch tv and, lets say their parents are watching tv, they can go to their room and watch
- . 3) if their tvs and/or computers are in their room they don’t have to share
- .
- . And we all know that if you don’t finish your homework you get to walk.
- . If they didn’t have a computer in their room they might not be able to finish their homework. If you click here and put in are computers good for kids it will tell you.

Kids Shouldn’t have tv’s or computers in your room unless your parents put a security lock on the computers.

What if they have a Wii in their room? They could play physical games like Just Dance. They might also have XBox Connect which is very tiring. It would be hard for kids to get obese. Plus, if a kid gets in trouble, parents can take it away. Chances are, parents aren’t going to pay for all those channels. They’ll probably just pay for the basic channels that have all the educational shows. Parents should say that kids can’t watch tv past a certain time at night. Edit | Unapprove | Delete

Michigan State University’s Linda Jackson, PhD, and colleagues studied 140 children from low-income families who had never had home Internet access.
- .
- . The kids received home computers and free Internet access for nearly a year and a half. The researchers checked the kids’ grades and test scores before and after the study
- .
- . After the study, the families kept the computers and received help in finding low-cost Internet access.

I think that it would be easier for a kid to have a computer in their room like if they needed to look something up for homework they could do it.

I don’t know what side I’m on so I will give a good sentance or two and a bad sentance or two for each.
- .
- . A kid shouldn’t have a tv in thier room because if they had a friend spend the night and that friend brought over a movie that was inappropriet, they couldn’t watch it. Also a kid might secretly watch something they were not supposed to.
- . On the other hand, maybe a kid wanted to watch a show and their parents were watching a boring sappy romance movie or football.
- .
- . A child should not have a computer in their room because they might accidentally find some inapropriet video(s) or end up playing games they aren’t supposede to.
- . On the oher hand, if the computer was taken and that person had to go and look something up, they could. Or they could plan a secret surprise or play a game. Edit | Unapprove | Delete

Now that I have fanally got to doing this I would like to comment that kids should be able to have a tv and possibly a computer in their bedroom as long as their parnts trust them and they use it for good use. As well it depends on what they use it for, educational and appropiet entertanmit use are fine. Most people say tv rots your brain, but as far as I’m concerened I have learned half the stuff I know from Animal Planet and Bio Channal. So tvs can be educational.
- .
- .

Kids should not have tvs in their room because kids will get addicted to watching tv in there room and will want to stay in their rooms watching tv. TV consumes more of a child’s waking hours than any other activity. Do you realize that children spend about 15,000 to 30,000 hours in front of the TV by the time they are 16 years old. Compare this with about 11,000 hours of classroom instruction. http://voices.yahoo.com/how-does-television-affect-kids-12134.html Edit | Unapprove | Delete

So lets say you had a x-box 360 and you had any Call of Dutty or any Halo and if you did the missions they have bad words when some one was talking and if they had head phones they would get away with it.
